Our Management Team

Derek was born in the Azores, Portugal and grew up as a “military brat.” His family permanently settled in Alamogordo while Derek was still in elementary school when his parents retired from the Air Force. Derek started with the company in 2003 while attending college, working on a construction crew at Holloman Air Force Base. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business from New Mexico State University in 2006 and became the Site Safety and Health Officer for a USACE project building concrete parking lots at Fort Bliss, Texas. Once that project was completed, Derek started estimating construction projects varying in size from $10K to over $10 million dollars. He worked as the Contractor Quality Control Manager for two USACE airfield projects at Holloman Air Force Base before becoming the Project Manager on two additional USACE projects at Holloman and White Sands Missile Range. Currently, Derek is AGGTEC’s Mining/Pit Production/QC Manager overseeing aggregate production and quality control. He holds a GB98, GA98 and GF98 New Mexico Contractor’s License. Derek has been married to his beautiful wife Stacy since 2008. He enjoys hunting and other outdoor activities in his free time.


Steve Joined Mesa Verde in June of 2003 as an operator/laborer working in a range of different capacities. Steve took a short break from Mesa Verde to pursue a career in east Texas as a finish blade operator in highway construction, but soon came back to his Mesa Verde family. He quickly moved up to foreman, building various projects from small parking lots in the private sector, to multi-million-dollar airfield projects for the Air Force. Steve then started his role as paving superintendent where he oversaw all asphalt paving practices to include, but not limited to quality, scheduling, and cost. Steve and his crew paved parking lots, city streets, highways, and runways. Since that time, Steve has become Mesa Verde’s Construction Manager where he oversees all construction activities to include ensuring sufficient deployment and productivity of work crews, engages in open communication with superintendents, handles and reports any issues which could affect project plans. He uses resources where appropriate to achieve project safety, schedules, cost, scope, and quality objectives. He creates construction schedules and ensures that milestone completion dates are met. Steve ensures all new hires receive appropriate orientation and company designated training; creates and maintains an atmosphere of teamwork and positive attitudes, promotes, executes and adheres to the Company's safety program, and encourages all to meet safety guidelines.
Steve met his beautiful wife Jennifer, in March of 2003 and they married on September 29, 2007. Steve and his wife gave birth to their son Landon on January 28, 2010. Steve enjoys spending time with his family and friends riding side by sides and four wheelers in New Mexico’s amazing landscapes. He also enjoys camping and hunting.

Sam was born and raised in Tularosa, NM and after graduating from Tularosa High School attended Automotive & Diesel Technical School in Denver, CO. Sam started work with Mesa Verde in 1992 and has served in many different capacities, working his way up from laborer to plant superintendent. Today he acts as Mesa Verde’s Facilities Manager and supervises the warehouse, mechanic shop and landfill. He is responsible for inventory and purchase requisitions for all plant operations and maintenance. Sam is OSHA 30-hour certified and is also a CIC certified crane operator. He is an ACNM certified Traffic Control Supervisor and is licensed by the State of New Mexico’s Environmental Department as a Solid Waste Facility Operator. Sam has received Petroleum Storage Tank Owner/Operator certification, New Mexico Class A/B/C.
Sam has been married to his wife, Tisi since 1997. They have two daughters, one granddaughter and a grandson. In his free time, Sam enjoys hunting and fishing, and is a Dallas Cowboy football fanatic.

Jason was born in Albuquerque, NM but has called Alamogordo home for the past 18 years since his parents retired here. He has been employed with Mesa Verde for 11 years and worked his way up from a laborer to the position of Concrete Manager. In 2013 Jason was promoted to the Materials Division Manager position, in which he manages material production to meet design and performance specifications. Jason oversees all aspects of the materials department, from customer service and sales to quality control. He successfully completed his biggest project in 2012, providing over 38,000 yards of airfield concrete to the Parallel Taxiway job at Holloman Air Force Base.
Jason is OSHA 30-hour certified and is an ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician. He also holds and NRMCA Concrete Plant Manager Certification. Jason is a sports enthusiast and enjoys playing basketball, watching football and running. In his free time he enjoys working on his old trucks, a 1972 Chevy and a 1973 Ford.

Bobbi was born in Michigan and graduated from Muskegon College in 1989 with an associate’s degree in Accounting. She started working at Mesa Verde in 1993 as a receptionist whose duties included assisting with payroll, accounts receivable and accounts payable. She returned to the area in 2001 and became a contract administrator in 2002. She was promoted to her current position as Contracts Manager in 2008. As Contracts Manager, Bobbi oversees the documentation associated with contracts ranging from $10,000 to over $10 million. Along with a staff of contract administrators and estimators, the Contracts/Estimating Department assures proper compliance from initial proposal to contract closeout.
In her free time, Bobbi enjoys traveling, trail running, participating in obstacle course races and spending time with her two children.

Andy was born and raised in Tularosa, New Mexico and joined Mesa Verde in 1994 as an equipment operator. After working in utilities and operating the concrete and asphalt plants, Andy was promoted to Superintendent at our La Luz Pit in 2005. As Pit Superintendent, Andy directs and coordinates the mine site and is responsible for all material production. He is MSHA Part 46 trained and ensures MSHA compliance, along with being OSHA 10 hour certified.
Andy has been married for 9-1/2 years to his wife, Corina. He enjoys spending time with his family which includes two children, three step-children, three grandchildren and a fourth on the way. In his free time Andy loves being in the outdoors and is an avid hunter and fisherman.

Dan and his family moved to Cloudcroft from Phoenix AZ, in 1996 and he joined Mesa Verde in January 2001. Dan has been building heavy highway, industrial, commercial and residential projects for over 30 years with a background in road construction, utilities and foundations. As Superintendent, Dan oversees the day to day operations of his projects including Safety, Scheduling, Budget and Sub Contractors.
Dan has been married to his wife Janice since 1990 and they have raised two sons. In his spare time Dan enjoys fishing, photography and traveling.
CLINT HATFIELD, SUPERINTENDANT
Clint was born and raised in Texas and previous to working at Mesa Verde was an over the road truck driver for twelve years. Clint began his career with Mesa Verde in 2005 as a truck driver. He moved over to the Construction Department in 2007 as an equipment operator. Clint has worked his way from an operator to Foreman and now to a Superintendent. Clint has constructed a wide variety of projects at Holloman AFB including a number of airfield projects. He excels at performing work on an active airfield and has played a large part in Mesa Verde’s recent successful projects with both Holloman and the USACE. Clint is certified by the American Concrete Institute as a Concrete Field Testing Technician, Grade 1 and a Concrete Transportation Construction Inspector. He is also a Traffic Control Supervisor as certified by the Associated Contractors of New Mexico.
Clint has been married to his lovely wife Rene since 1993 and they have raised two sons and a daughter. In his spare time, Clint enjoys fishing, hunting and camping.
ALONSO ACOSTA, CHIEF ESTIMATOR
Alonso was born in San Juanito, Chihuahua, Mexico and grew up in Albuquerque, NM. He graduated from Central New Mexico Community College in 2010 with an associate’s degree in Construction Management. He has been employed with Mesa Verde since 2012 and has been estimating projects ranging from $10,000 to over $10 million since 2008. As Chief Estimator, Alonso is responsible for all project bids.
Alonso is OSHA 30-hour certified and is a certified Traffic Control Supervisor. He also holds a certificate in Construction Estimating and Scheduling from Central New Mexico Community College. Alonso has been married to his wife, Carla, since 2018. He has one daughter and In his free time he enjoys traveling, camping and fishing with his girls.
CHRISSY SHATZER, ASSISTANT CONTROLLER
Chrissy was born and raised in New Mexico and started working for Mesa Verde in 2014. Chrissy started with the company as a General Accountant then worked her way up to Assistant Controller. Her duties include supervising the accounting department and assisting the CFO with the accounting functions of the company. She is also involved in various special projects including drone flights for the materials inventory process. Over the years Chrissy has worked as an EMT, Medical Billing Specialist and Court Clerk before deciding accounting was the career for her. Chrissy completed her Bachelor of Science in Accounting degree in 2016.

Lindsey’s family moved to the Alamogordo area in 1985 when her dad was stationed at Holloman. She was raised here and considers the Tularosa Basin area home. She loves reading, sunshine, and getting outside and exploring the mountains with her two children.
Lindsey has a Bachelor degree in Human Services with a focus in Management, and became interested in the human resources field in 2013 when she worked as a government contractor for the Air Force. She obtained her Professional in Human Resources certification (PHR) in 2015. Lindsey enjoys working in HR because of the people she gets to meet and work with.
Lindsey has been part of the Mesa Verde family since 2019.
